Peter and the Starcatcher
By Rick Elise Music by Wayne Barker Based on the book by Dave Berry and Ridley Pearson
Rose Theater, Omaha
This Peter Pan origin story follows a group of orphans as they help a young girl shepherd a trunk full of magical starstuff safely away from sailors, pirates, and island inhabitants. Told in a wildly theatrical style, the piece was designed to reflect Peter's inner journey from the darkness of a childhood denied to an adolescence full of possibilities, the best of which being friendship. Utilizing non-literal staging, comedy modes ranging from clowning to pun to slapstick, and a story about freedom, the design supported the sense of an ensemble making the show out of found materials to activate the audience's imagination.
