Disney's The Little Mermaid
Book By Doug Wright
Music By Alan Menken Lyrics by Howard Ashman and Glen Slater
The Rose Theater, Omaha
A young woman feels herself inside the wrong skin. She rails against a world that denies her a voice as she begins to fall in love with a society about which she knows very little. Caving to the forces of jealousy and fear, she makes a bargain with their very embodiment in the person of the sea witch. This gives her only temporary access to what her heart desires. Her slowly emboldened claims for selfhood in this new world eventually break down the boundaries between communities.
